Brandborg Vineyard and Winery is the brainchild of the husband and wife team, Sue and Terry Brandborg. Terry hails from San Francisco, and his first winery was in Marin County, California. He met his wife, Sue, at a wine tasting, they wed, and eventually holidayed in Oregon.
They liked what they saw, and about 15 years ago they chose to move to Southern Oregon. Elkton, Oregon had the ideal cool-climate they were looking for. They now offer fine wines from select grapes grown throughout the Umpqua Valley.
The proximity to the Pacific Ocean allows them to offer Riesling and Gewürztraminer varietals. They can also draw upon warmer, inland varietals such Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.
In 2010, the New York Times wine writer, Eric Asimov, recognized their Gewürztraminer as one of the finest efforts in the United States. They also won gold for their 2014 “Treats” Riesling and they were the 2015 Oregon Winery of the Year. The winery is just 20 miles from Interstate 5, and well-worth a visit.
